Balaam Murphy was established in 2020 to focus on the design of affordable housing on small sites.

Our approach is pragmatic and person-centred, with a focus on achieving zero carbon and low-embodied energy in construction.

Directors Fran Balaam and Matt Murphy have extensive public and private sector experience spanning architecture, urban design, regeneration and development – and provide design and strategy consultancy to London councils in addition to their core architecture practice. 

Fran Balaam RIBA
Fran is a chartered architect and leads the office’s architecture projects. She also advises local authorities, developers and other architects on design quality.

Prior to establishing Balaam Murphy, Fran led on design advice for Harrow Council, on behalf of the GLA.

Matt Murphy
Matt has over 15 years’ experience in architecture, regeneration and development, and has worked for the Greater London Authority, London Development Agency and several London boroughs, and in architecture practices in the UK, Japan and the Netherlands.

Matt leads BM’s strategic advisory work with London councils.
